ALASKA SALMON FISHING ROD
Our salmon rods for trolling and mooching are Shakespeare Ugly-Stik Light custom rods. They're topped with Penn 320 GTI's or Shimano 2000 lever drag Charter Special reels. All of the reels are spooled with quality Izorline 25 pound monofilament.
ALASKA HALIBUT FISHING ROD
The halibut rods are 5'6" tuna sticks built by Shakespeare. They're designed to provide greater leverage to ease the strain during long battles. These rods, with roller tips and stripper rear guides, are rated for a line class of 80-130 pounds and are crowned with Diawa 400H Sealine or Penn 113H Senator reels. All of the reels are spooled with 80-pound Spectra from Izorline International.
ALASKA COD and ROCKFISH FISHING ROD
Cod and rockfish are primarily fished by jigging on the ocean's floor and that's why we've chosen a well-balanced jigging stick. The rods are Shakespeare 7' 2203 Tiger Stiks with Penn 330 GTI level-wind reels. This combination is light in weight and well balanced for hours of comfortable jigging. Since we fish mainly over reefs, we've loaded the reels using Izorline's 80-pound Spectra to aid in the retrieval of rock-hung jigs.
ALASKA SPINNING RODS
Our spinning rods are quality 7' medium action Shakespeare Ugly Stik Lite one-piece blanks with Shimano Solstace 4000 reels spooled with 10-pound Izorline monofilament. These are sensitive rods for trout species and stout enough to handle a King Salmon.
ALASKA FLY FISHING RODS
Our choice, are 9' eight weight Sage Discovery Series rods with Scientific Angler's model 78 reels with drags and weight forward floating line. These rods are excellent for the beginner to learn with, but are also an excellent choice for the experienced fly fisher. All flies are tied by the staff and are included as tackle. If you would like to tie your own flies, please take a look at our Alaska fly patterns page and also call the lodge for further information. While at the lodge, guests will have at their disposal Nor-Vise true rotary vises and an array of tying materials.
ALASKA BAIT CASTING RODS
Currently, we have a limited number of bait casting rods without reels. They're medium-light actions in either 7' or 8'6". If you're a baitcaster, we recommend that you call us before packing to see what we've purchased. We normally use up to a number 4, 3/8 ounce, spinner, Mepps or Vibrax, which is lite for some anglers to effectively cast and that's why we do not carry complete outfits.
